Mr. Olson- A True Story
>
Mr. Olson lives alone and has very limited income. His ailments are mostly those of aging; arthritis, loss of hearing, heart disease, and some memory problems. He also has high blood pressure, diabetes and depression. A note written by a medical student indicated his diet “emphasizes” corn dogs.
 >
Perhaps his greatest problem is that he does not read. He is also a bit cantankerous.
.
Mr. O often has tales of having been taken advantage of. He does not know how to manage the documents that come in the mail. Mostly he ignores them. But, ignoring a court summons because of complaints filed by neighbors is not such a good idea. One morning, Mr. Olson opened his door to the knock of police and was taken to jail. He had no one to call, no family, no friends; and so he called his doctor's office- Family Health Care.
>
FHC took his medicines to the jail and arranged a loan for bail money so he did not have to stay in the jail until a hearing (which he paid back over three months.) FHC provided him with civil legal advice and helped him with paperwork for his court-appointed criminal defender to help settle his dispute. We also help him with his medicines, which he knows by color and shape. Sometimes the generic medicine changes throw him off, so he brings them in for sorting each week. FHC provides dietary counseling and help with shopping. Our billing department has spent long hours helping him through his Medicare paperwork.

In short, Family Health Care is really “family” for Mr. Olson. He has no other. Please consider donating to help us be there to help Mr. O and other Mr. O’s in our community.
