Susan- A True Story
Susan was pregnant. She and her two young
boys were patients at Family Health Care. The youngest complained of an ear ache and she brought him in to be checked late
During her visit,
FHC staff learned that her husband had just been sent to prison and the family had no income. Susan confided that she had
only two cans of tomato soup at home for her boys.
Family Health Care had no social worker at the time, but the
clinic staff rallied to help. That night two staff members took her to the store for some bread and milk.
But, it was the next morning that was the real story. Every member
of the staff brought in a bag of groceries for Susan and her boys- together we filled her cupboards. The clinic nurse called
churches to find assistance and helped Susan connect with other community resources. Susan and her boys were later able to get
state support. Susan had a well-nourished and healthy pregnancy, resulting in another boy!
Today the boys are all doing well in school.
Susan has utilized counseling and medical services as well as special support services at Family Health Care. She completed
her GED certificate (equivalent to a high school diploma) and has had a steady job for more than five years.
Family Health Care was here for Susan and
her boys. Thanks to support from many individuals Family Health Care’s cupboard is never bare. Consider helping us,
so we will always have enough to share.
